In the Auto Expo 2012, conducted in New Delhi, the world class luxury car manufacturer, BMW had launched their much awaited Mini brand in India. This series however includes a wide range of mini cars, the BMW Mini Cooper, Cooper S, Cooper Convertible and the Cooper Countryman. The ex-showroom price for these versions ranges differently depending upon the features involved in them. The Cooper Convertible is priced at Rs.30.7 Lakhs, Mini Cooper of Rs. 25.5 Lakhs, Cooper Countryman ranges from Rs. 32.8 Lakhs and that for Cooper S is Rs. 28.6 Lakhs. Just as the price differs, the performance and power offered by each also differs.
The all new MkII Mini Cooper looks identical to the MKI model that has been developed in their headquarters in Munich. However the designers have managed to make it unique by changing the designs on the panels while the retro style remains a classic. Large air intake, twin exhausts, side sills, rear spoilers, and the chrome stuffing all around the car adds in detail and excellence to the profile of this all new hatchback. The rounded headlights and the honeycomb radiator grille are highlighted with the chrome following all the way around them. The side profile is marked by the eye-catching alloy wheels covered by black wheel arches running along the lower side of the car. The additional LED brake lights at the back are also surrounded by chrome highlighting. The overall length of this hatchback is 3699mm, width of 1683mm and height of 1407mm. The ground clearance offered by it is 149mm.

The windows in the BMW Mini Cooper are borderless and the glass rolls down when you open the doors and they roll up when you close. The borderless large window ensures that maximum light is drawn to the inside to lighten up the interiors during the day drive. The color changeable LED lights on the door pads, commonly known as mood lights, gives a quite an amazing effect at night. The interiors are upholstered with leather and the three spoke steering wheel holds the logo, the cruise and audio controls in it. The instrument cluster includes tachometer, digital speedometer, odometers and trip meters. A huge round display is present in the central console together with the retro speedometer, LCD screen, hazard lights and fuel meters.
The BMW Mini hatchbacks comes in both petrol as well as diesel variants. The petrol variants gets a 1.6L petrol engine whereas the diesel variant gets a 2.0L engine. With a fully variable valve timing and 16 valves the petrol engine delivers a maximum power of 122 hp at 6000 rpm and a maximum power of 160Nm at 4250 rpm. The Mini Cooper can accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in just 10.4 seconds while hitting a top speed of 197 km/hr. On the other hand the Mini Cooper S can accelerate from 0-100 km.hr in 7.2 seconds while reaching a max speed of 223 km/hr.
The front and the rear disc brakes ensure that the car is put into a sudden hold once the brake is applied. The four airbags for the occupants ensure that less damage is made to the passengers after an impact. In addition to these, the fog lamps, parking sensors and Anti-lock Braking System with EBD also ensure that the passengers within this hatchback are completely safe during the drive. The climatic controlled Air conditioning system ensures that the most perfect weather condition is circulated inside the car throughout the drive. The power windows, remote controlled central locking feature, rear wiper and defogger and electrically adjusted driver seat are some of the other safety features put forth by this all new hatchback.
