Porsche Macan

After having gained much success from the Cayenne model, the German luxury auto manufacturer Porsche has decided to come up with a smaller model of the same in the form of Porsche Macan. The car is expected to roll out in the market by the end of year 2014, however before that it will be debuted at the 2014 Frankfurt Motor Show. This baby SUV will be loaded with the same Porsche features like agility, lightweight and ease of handling. Initially named as Cajun, the company decided to change its name to Macan, which is an Indonesian word for ‘tiger’. This name is apt for the Porsche Macan as it combines suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics.

Exterior

The exterior profile of this all new hybrid is a complete blend of power, subtleness, versatility and fascination. It is expected to draw attention of every person going past it. Describing the car's design, Bernhard Maier, Member of the Executive Board Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG, said, "The Macan combines all sports car characteristics with the benefits of a SUV and is a genuine Porsche." Comparing Porsche Macan to the larger Cayenne SUV, this one sits a bit lower and has a sportier roofline that rolls more naturally into the rear-end. The alloy wheels and the body colored bumpers make the car rather more attractive. The xenon headlamps, electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors and the sun roof makes the car valuable and worthy. The overall dimensions of the car include a height of 64.5 inches, width of 75.8 inches and a length of 185 inches. The wheelbase of the car is about 110.6 inches to ensure good interior space and comfort is provided for the passengers.

Interior

The all new Porsche Macan is stuffed with features that provide interior comfort. The automatic climate control system of the air conditioner, power windows, electronically adjustable driver seat according to the driver's comfort, inbuilt music system, tinted glass and the leather seats that can be folded easily are some of the luxurious interior features offered by this hybrid. The air conditioning vents at the rear space, controls that are mounted on the steering wheel, automatic headlamp and wiper that has sensors, comfortable steering adjustment, rear side wiper, defogger and the cup holders embedded arm rest are some of the interior features offered by the car.

Engine & Performance

Initially it was heard that the Porsche Macan will be powered by a new 3.0 litre twin turbocharged V6 engine delivering 370HP of peak power and a torque of 400 lb/ft. However for those who expect more out this model, the manufacturers have also come up with three other options, which includes the 3.6 litre V6 engine producing 295 HP (used for Macan S), a four-cylinder engine that will deliver 220HP and a 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine that produces 190 hp. It is believed that there will also be a hybrid model that will sport a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor. This one will produce a maximum power of 241HP. Also mated to these engines will be a standard seven-speed manual transmission and an optional seven-speed, dual clutch PDK automatic transmission.

Safety

Parking sensors that are embedded at the rear side of the car ensure that the parking is made easy and is truly driven cautiously. The fog lamps ensure that the driver is provided with complete visibility even in adverse conditions. To ensure the safety of the passengers within, the Porsche Macan is provided with 6 airbags and seatbelts including that for the rear space passengers. Antilock braking system with Electronic Brake force Distribution together with the Electronic Stability Program are some of the safety features that are expected to come in hand with the version. Conclusion

The Porsche Macan is expected to come into the market by end of next year and since it’s actually based on the Audi Q5 platform, the vehicle will be reasonably priced at $45,000. The vehicle is targeted to attract the young buyers with its low price tag as it won’t be stuffed with as much luxury equipments as its big brother, the Porsche Cayenne. Also some of the vehicles it be competing against will be the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Infiniti EX35, Mercedes Benz GLK and the Range Rove Evoque.

Mercedes Benz GLA Concept

The 2013 Shanghai motor Show will witness the launch of a compact premium class SUV, the Mercedes Benz GLA Concept from the German luxury auto manufacturer. This concept car combines dynamic styling with recreational functions as well. Dr Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President Mercedes-Benz Cars, Sales and Marketing commented; “The Concept GLA is a compact SUV that combines its sporting spirit with the all-round qualities of a tough, leisure-time companion. 'Escape the everyday' is the message that this car conveys to its driver.”

Exterior

The exterior of the GLA Concept is characterized by a number of distinctive features, which is definitely going to make the heads turn. Starting from the front, the car gets a powerful bonnet with two distinctive lines on top of it. Coming down one can see a sporty radiator grille with centrally positioned star in it. This new style surround to the star merges elegantly into the two horizontal bars. However the most interesting feature in the car is the shimmering blue headlamps which not only has the function to lit up in the dark but also in it are the laser-beam projectors which are also capable of projecting pictures or films onto a screen or other surface. Any format that can be operated through COMAND Online can serve as a source: pictures or films from a smart phone, the internet, or from a hard drive.

From the side too, the GLA Concept conveys a sense of power and confidence. The side gets a “dropping line” design philosophy which extends from headlamps to the rear wheel arch.  Other than this the 20-inch wheels, with their distinctive five-spoke turbine design makes the vehicle look more elegant. The rear end gets muscular haunches above the rear axle, extends to the rear over the light clusters emphasizing the broad stance of the tail end. Also the rear features a large roof spoiler that follows through very neatly on the structure of the rear roof paneling and provides housing for additional brake light.

Interior

The interiors of the Mercedes Benz GLA Concept are made in alignment with the interiors of other compact Mercedes models, except that here we have a more sophisticated and exceptionally high quality SUV. As one enters inside, he is welcomed by dominance of exciting leather and galvanized aluminium. The four individual seats and door centre panels are covered in rich shade of brown natural leather. The Concept incorporates more than 20 metres of hand stitched seams on the leather. The instrument panel in this car is built in several layers. On top of a leather-upholstered surface sits a framework in a combination of matt and polished aluminium, which provides the necessary support for all the instruments. This unit is protected from dust and dirt by a plexiglas covering that is illuminated from behind.

The air vents in the instrument panel as well as in the rear represent a further stylistic development of the vents used in the Concept A-Class and Concept Style Coupe, and are likewise illuminated from behind. They change colour according to the interior temperature set by the occupants. At a temperature of 22 degrees Celsius they light up in white. If a cooler temperature is selected for the interior, they turn blue, while opting for an influx of warm air switches the illumination to red.

Engine & Performance

The GLA Concept performance details are not out as of now, however it is very likely that this concept will be powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine just like in the A250. With this engine, 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission and Mercedes 4MATIC all wheel drive system the vehicle is expected to deliver a maximum power of 208 hp whereas a max torque of 258 lb-ft of torque which is good enough to make the vehicle sprint from 0-62 mph in just 6.6 seconds while reaching a top speed of 149mph.

Conclusion

It is not sure as to when the Mercedes Benz GLA Concept will hit the showroom floors, but when it is launched the vehicle definitely may be missing some of features as used in the concept. This vehicle is aimed at a new and very difficult space in the market, wherein it will be competing against the BMW X1 and Audi Q3.

The Skoda Superb is designed to comfortably fit five passengers. Ford EcoSport

The Auto Expo 2012 conducted in January, at Delhi was the best place to debut the Ford’s latest arrival, the Ford EcoSport. Although the model is optimal for Indian roads, the manufacturers have decided to launch it in Thailand and South America, in addition to China. The all new Ford EcoSport is incomparable and looks extravagantly magnificent as well. Although the design is developed from the base model of Ford Fiesta, the manufacturers had made keen attention to make it simply exquisite and unique with its compact and fuel efficient model and designs. The vehicle is expected to be launched in India in June this year with a price tag of around Rs 9 Lakhs.

Exterior

Ford India has been known for giving stylish and sporty cars in the country. And the company has tried to keep the same expectations while manufacturing the Ford EcoSport as well. The exteriors are simply amazing with a size which is less than a normal SUV but bigger than a sedan. Starting with the front, one can simply make out that off-roading is never going to be a problem with this car. With 200mm ground clearance and signature large trapezoidal grille with Ford badge, the front looks enticing. Other features in the front includes headlamps with halogen lights, body coloured bumper with black air dam and small round fog lamps on either side of it.

Onto the sides, an ascending curve drives down to the rear of the car giving it a rather never seen before profile. The inclined A pillar and the short hood is yet another feature that makes it quite distinguishable. The rear profile shows a larger rear window which extends to wrap around the sides together with the oblique tail-lamps. The tail lamps also include an inbuilt swing gate handle on to it which is yet another innovative design worth mentioning. Carefully mounted on the swing door is the spare tyre with a wheel cover. Also with a ground clearance of 200mm and water wading capability of 550mm, it makes the vehicle easily go wherever you like.

Once you step inside the all-new compact SUV, the EcoSport, you can see the matching resemblance to that offered by the base model, the Ford Fiesta. The buttons are neatly stacked onto the sporty central console. It has an inbuilt magnificent and powerful audio system that supports USB/auxiliary in addition to the CD/MP3 player. It has a spacious glove compartment which ensures maximum space for storage of particulates. In addition to the steering controls, the Smart Keyless entry, the rear parking sensors and Bluetooth make the features complicated and useful. The voice control feature makes the car a real piece of creativity and this feature is never seen before on a compact SUV.

Engine & Performance

The Ford EcoSport will be powered by a 1.0 Litre Ecoboost petrol engine. This new innovative three cylinder petrol engine uses upto 20% less fuel compared to traditional 1.6 litre petrol engine and still produces a maximum power of 125PS and a torque of 170Nm at 1500 rpm. The engine block for this vehicle is made out of cast iron as against aluminium which will help to reduce the amount of energy required to warm up the engine by upto 50%. The CO₂ emission given out by EcoSport is 140g/Km making it cleaner and green. This engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission; however there also will be an option for 6-speed power shift automatic transmission with dual clutch taken from Ford Fiesta.

Safety

The dual airbags at the front for both the driver and the co-passenger seats, the side curtain airbags ensure complete safety of the passengers within and make sure that much lethal harm is prevented. In addition to this, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP), the rear parking sensors, Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), the Hill Launch Assist, and the seat belts for the three rear seats also ensures that passengers are in complete safety all through the drive at every point. BMW Mini Cooper

In the Auto Expo 2012, conducted in New Delhi, the world class luxury car manufacturer, BMW had launched their much awaited Mini brand in India. This series however includes a wide range of mini cars, the BMW Mini Cooper, Cooper S, Cooper Convertible and the Cooper Countryman. The ex-showroom price for these versions ranges differently depending upon the features involved in them. The Cooper Convertible is priced at Rs.30.7 Lakhs, Mini Cooper of Rs. 25.5 Lakhs, Cooper Countryman ranges from Rs. 32.8 Lakhs and that for Cooper S is Rs. 28.6 Lakhs. New Ford Endeavour

The all New Ford Endeavour was first launched in 2004 and since then it has been undergoing renovations on the existing model to ensure that it stays fit on any road and weather conditions. This face-lifted model was launched in 2009. It is the only SUV from Ford to be manufactured in India, it is known as Ford Everest elsewhere. Exterior

Interior

The new Ford Endeavour is a luxurious SUV model offering comfortable and spacious passenger room along with lots of advanced luxurious features and world class comfort for the best driving experience.  The dual toned grand dashboard, and the user-friendly color of the interior makes the inside profile of the vehicle quite breath taking. The second one is the 3.0L Duratorq diesel engine producing a maximum power of 156 PS at 3200 rpm and a maximum torque of 380 Nm at 2500 rpm. Safety

Lamborghini Veneno

The 2013 Geneva Motor Show had yet another mouth dropping supercar, the Lamborghini Veneno. Apart from the other two supercars, the Laferrari & McLaren P1, which were also debuted at this motor show, Veneno is something which cannot be missed. This car is the 50^th anniversary vehicle from Lamborghini and so it had to something special. Just like any other Lamborghini cars, the name Veneno is the name of one of the strongest and most aggressive fighting bulls ever that had wounded the famous torero Jose Sanchez Rodriguez in the year 1914.

Exterior

The Lamborghini Veneno has one of the most extreme exterior designs which has been seen on any supercars till now. Though it was anticipated that this new car will be based on the design concept from the previous model Aventador, the car doesn’t have any resemblance to it. From the front the car features a large aerodynamic wing with huge channels allowing the air to arrive in the front hood, taking it to the windshield and then the front wheels. It gets spectacular Y-shaped angular headlamps which run deep into the fenders and the scissor doors. From the sides, the car catches the attention with its larger wheel arches on the front and rear end as well as the tri coloured racing stripes running all the way from the front end of door to the rear.

From the rear it looks somewhat like the exoskeleton of an alien creature. Optimized for under-body aerodynamics and high speed cornering stability, the rear gets a substantial diffuser framing four sizable exhaust pipes divided by a splitter. There’s also a large opening at the rear that provides better ventilation to the engine. Apart from this other noticeable features on the rear are an adjustable rear wing, rear lights which are also Y-shape designed and engine covering featuring six wedge shaped opening helping the V12 beast to cool down in the best possible manner.

Interior

Just like the exterior the interior of the Veneno is also dominated by the carbon fiber. This becomes clearly visible as soon as one sees the central tunnel and the sills. The two lightweight bucket shaped seats are also made out of Lamborghini’s patented Forged Composite material.  The use of composites reduces the weight of the vehicle to a considerable amount which in turn increases the driving fun. What makes the interior look stunning is the new completely redesigned instrument panel with aggressive graphics and some additional features like the G-meter, providing all the necessary information to the driver for controlling the car.

Engine & Performance

The Lamborghini Veneno is powered by an improved version of the 6.5 litre V-12 engine already installed in the Lamborghini Aventador. This new version gets enlarged intake paths, optimized thermodynamics, exhaust system with lower back pressure and slightly higher rated rpm. All this things adds upto give the vehicle a power output of 750 bhp. Also as Veneno is 275 pounds lighter than the Aventador, the performance numbers are also quite stunning. The car accelerates from 0-60 mph in just 2.8 seconds while reaching a top speed of 221 mph. A 7-speed ISR manual gearbox with all wheel drive is mated to the engine to give the best performance results.
