Honda CR-V

The first smallest SUV ever produced in the Indian market has been the biggest measure that has made the manufacturers of Honda CR-V to go high in their competition with other SUVs. McLaren P1

The 2013 Geneva Motor Show has been a debut platform for many supercars. One among them is the all new McLaren P1. During a press conference, the McLaren Automotive emphasized that the clear goal of this new supercar is to be the best driver’s car in the world on road as well as track. And for achieving this, the company is using all of its 50 years of racing experience and success, especially in the aerodynamic and lightweight carbon fibre technologies. The result being that the car gets an unparallel amount of downforce found in any car, somewhat similar to the GT3 racing car. This addon not only helps the car achieve better cornering and braking performance but also attains balance, stability and drive-ability at all speeds.

Exterior

The McLaren P1 was designed from the outset to prioritize aerodynamic performance, just like any Formula 1 car. This car too had to go through the process of wind tunnel testing and CFD aerodynamic modeling to optimize the aerodynamic flow, both to provide incredible levels of downforce and cooling to the powertrain. McLaren is a known world leader in carbon technology and the McLaren P1 gets a new revolutionary carbon fibre MonoCage monocoque that forms a complete structure incorporating the vehicle’s roof and its distinctive snorkel air intake. This material offers lightness, strength and rigidity improving performance, safety, handling, agility, efficiency, durability and ride comfort. Interior

With a clear goal to be the driver’s best car, the McLaren P1 also makes sure that the interiors offers the driver and the passenger a cocooning, efficiently packed comfortable cabin. Inside it feels like a cockpit of a fighter aircraft, complete with glass canopy overhead and a windscreen deeper than it is wide. The carbon fibre is also used extensively inside the car for the two seat cabin, dashboard, floor, headlining, doors, and rockers thus reducing the overall weight of the vehicle to improve the performance. Other eye catching feature inside the car is the digital instrumentation inside the dashboard. This includes a set of F1-style shift indicators which start of green, change to red then blue and steering wheel which is made precisely as a McLaren racing driver’s wheel.

Engine & Performance

The McLaren P1 will be powered using combined force from two highly efficient powerplants, offering the vehicle with an optimum mix of day to day drivability, superb throttle response and top speed. The main power source is the mid mounted 3.8 litre twin turbo V8 petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 737 PS (727 bhp) at 7500 rpm and a maximum torque of 720 Nm at 4000 rpm. The other power source is the lightweight electric motor producing a maximum power of 179 PS (176 bhp) and a maximum torque of 260 Nm instantly from standstill.

Both these powerplants combines together to give a maximum power output of 916PS (903 bhp) and a maximum torque of 900 Nm at 4000 rpm. The top speed of the car is electronically limited to 350 Km/h (217 mph), while it can accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in less than 3 seconds, 0-200 km/h in less than 7 seconds and 0-300 km/h in less than 17 seconds, which is 5 seconds quicker than the McLaren F1.

Conclusion

With a price tag of £866,000, one may thing that the car may hardly find any buyers, but one may be surprised to know that customers have been placing orders ever since the near-identical concept car was first revealed at the last year’s Paris Motor Show. However to maintain exclusivity, the company has limited the production number of McLaren P1 to just 375 units, ensuring that the car will remain a rarity and if at all spotted on road, an unforgettable sight.

Honda Amaze

Honda Amaze is the latest hybrid car developed by the world class, world famous Japanese auto manufacturers, the Honda.  It is a sedan version of the skeletal model, Honda Brio. The manufacturers claim them to be an ultimate new experience for the Indian people and the market within. The Honda Amaze is going to be the first diesel car from the Japanese auto manufacturer on the Indian soil and is expected to be launched by 2013-2014. The sedan is expected to be a complete hybrid of Honda Brio and Honda City in all their features. The ex-showroom price for this sedan is expected to be Rs. 7,60,000.

Exterior

Although the sedan is remodeled with keeping the base model intact, the designers have done their best to reinstate the sedan with some stylish bits. The radiator grille and the front bumper are completely remodeled to give them a stylish profile to the car. The pointed headlights together with the twin layered chrome grille give a rather more classy look to the front view.  Despite the fact that the bumper of the car is provided with a small air dam, the aerodynamic profile of the car is still maintained by the sharp cuts and lines on the car. The sporty side profile is enhanced by the wheel arches and the shoulder lines. The boot of the car is designed perfectly to blend in with its hatchback version, without hindering the classy outlook as produced by it. The full sized clear lens tail lights on the rear bumper, the lip spoiler and the chrome plate adds in exquisite profile to the compact sedan. Interior

Although the outlook of this new hybrid is reinstated with its sharp features, the interior is a complete replica of the base model, the Honda Brio. The front seats give luxurious space and support to the passengers within, and the sedan is designed to comfortably occupy five passengers. The Honda Amaze sedan though not yet launched is believed to be launched in both petrol as well diesel variants keeping in mind the current demands in the market. The petrol version will be powered by 1.2 litre i-VTEC engine which is currently used in Honda Brio as well as the Jazz. The maximum power developed by this engine is around 90PS @ 6200 rpm and a maximum torque of 110 Nm @ 4800 rpm. On the other hand the diesel version is powered by a 1.5 litre four cylinder turbocharged i-DTEC engine which also delivers a maximum power of 90 bhp and a max torque of 210 Nm. The top variants of Honda Amaze come with dual SRS airbags in the front, and it also has Anti Lock Braking System with Electronic Brake force Distribution feature, and Brake Assist. Fans injured at a Horrific Crash

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida-- Atleast 28 fans were injured when Kyle Larson’s car flew into the front stretch catch fencing, moments before the end of the Nationwide Series race held on Feb 23^rd at Daytona International Speedway. This eventually turned out to be horrific multi crash event, with Kyle’s car shearing off its front half and leaving large pieces of the vehicle inside the fencing. Speedway president Joie Chitwood said 14 of the injured spectators were transported off-property for medical attention and 14 were treated on site.

The wreck began as Regan Smith turned sideways and a dozen cars hit behind him, when Tony Stewart was almost taking his chequered flag for victory. Later Smith admitted it was his fault adding “I threw a block”. Larson, who made his first start in NASCAR’s second-tier series, was thrown into the catch-fencing. His car tore a hole in the fence separating the track from the stands. Also the engine as well as one tyre and other debris came out flying into the grandstand.

None of the drivers involved in the crash were injured, except for driver Michael Annett who was hospitalized with chest bruising after hitting a safety barrier earlier in the race. Terry Huckaby, a fan whose brother was injured, told the news agency, “When the car hit, derbis went everywhere, tyres went flying over our heads. It was like a war zone there”.

NASCAR vice president Steve O’Donnell later said the NASCAR will conduct a complete investigation of the incident to determine if any additional safety changes need to be implemented. O’Donnell commented, “We look at these things after every incident to learn how we can apply changes in the future. If we can improve upon it, we will put those improvements in place as soon as we can. But we need to take the time to really study it. The safety of our fans is first and foremost.”

Safety

The new Mahindra Thar is equipped with all those safety features to ensure the complete safety of the passengers within; especially in an off- road drive. The strength, rigidity and shock absorbing facility of the car is provided by the traditional ladder frame chassis and body on frame construction.
