Peugeot Onyx

Peugeot the French automaker has everlastingly pursued its passion for cutting-edge technology throughout its 200 years of history. The company is the only one of its kind which offers comprehensive solutions to bikes, cars as well as vans. Exterior

Before the car was launched at the motor show, the company had said that the Onyx concept is made out of materials processed as little as possible. Also the doors are made out of polished metal mirror which will develop a patina as time passes by. And just like reat of the supercars, this one too gets carbon fiber in a matte black colour for the rest of the body.

Interior

The interior of the Peugeot Onyx Concept is as impressive as its exterior and the powertrain. In a press release its interior designer Julien Cueff says, “For the interior, I was inspired by everyday object, the egg box. With extraordinary economy of material, it protects very fragile items. I adapted the concept into an intuitive space, with a minimum of connected parts, to become one with the car.” The car gets a single floor to ceiling material, dashboard which is finely finished with wood produced from used newspapers and seats with plenty of leather, Alcantara and contrasting stitching.

Engine & Performance

Designed by enthusiasts this car doesn’t let you down even when it comes to performance. The car is powered by a 3.7 litre turbo-diesel V8 engine which was the same used in Peugeot’s former 908 LeMans racer. Although the engine is capable enough to generate 600hp of power, yet the company claims that Onyx Concept produces an extra 80 Hp of power using a F1-style KERS system which is capable of extracting energy which is otherwise lost during braking. Though the performance figures are not exactly known, it is believed that the car can accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 3 seconds.

Conclusion

As of now the Peugeot Onyx is just a concept car which is designed to cheer its fans at the company’s home Motor Show, as well as to boost the morale of its employees within the company. So there is no point in expecting the car to be launched any time soon.

Honda Brio

The Japanese auto manufacturer unveiled a prototype of the five-door subcompact hatchback in 2010 Thailand International Motor Show and tagged it as Honda Brio. In Italian, Brio means cheerful and energetic. With overwhelming response to this prototype, Honda started its manufacturing in Ayutthaya, Thailand and assembled it in Greater Noida, India. Honda Brio was introduced in India in September 2011. Though it was the second hatchback from Honda (as Honda Jazz had already established its place in the competitive Indian market), Honda Brio was well received by the Indian population. It has been designed according to the needs of an average Indian, incorporating all the necessary features with higher fuel efficiency and interior space, yet being one of the cheapest hatchbacks. Honda Brio ranges from 4.15 - 6 lakhs.

Exterior

Honda Brio is one of the coolest and the funkiest hatchbacks in India. Such are the exteriors that the car is tagged cute and sporty at the same time. With its attractive exteriors, this car is definitely a head turner. From the front, wide bonnet with V-shaped ridge, captivating black hexagonal-meshed front grille endorsing the huge aggressive chrome plated Honda logo, crystal clear cat eye shaped blackened out headlamp cluster with integrated turn indicators, smooth and curvy blend from upper to lower front grille and wide smiley shaped lower front grille posing a large air dam and integrated oval shaped fog lights on either sides, all impart Honda Brio an aesthetic look.

The hatchback has been designed on the “Double Triangle” design concept. From the rear, the most distinctive feature is the blackened out lower portion of the rear window, which is made up of composite glass to reduce the weight. Other features include the unconventionally placed tail lamp cluster on either corner of the glass sporting large stop lamps, wide bumper, chrome plated Honda emblem on the blackened glass and the rear number plate beautifully engraved on the rear bumper. Honda Brio measures 3610mm in length, 1680mm in width and 1500mm in height with a ground clearance of 165mm.

Interior

When it comes to interiors, Honda Brio is one of those cheap hatchbacks with almost all the sophisticated features necessary inside a car. The dashboard is adorned with single tone beige color in base variants and dual tone beige color in the V MT variant. As of now this beautiful hatchback from Honda is available only in petrol version, however we can soon expect the diesel version too running on the Indian streets. Therefore the current Honda Brio available in the country is powered by a 4 cylinder, 16 valve, SOHC, i-VTEC 1.2 litres petrol engine. This engine produces a maximum power of 88PS @ 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 109 Nm @ 4500 rpm. The engine is mated to a five speed manual transmission, however there’s also an option for automatic transmission. Due to the high torque produced at low rpm, vehicle is sure to perform well in the city, also delivering high performance and better fuel efficiency.

Safety

Honda boasts its hi-tech multi-directional crash test facility in Japan, where Honda Brio goes through the most stringent crash tests. Fiat Panda

The 2012 Paris Motor Show is going on and the Italian auto manufacturer has unveiled the all new variant of the Fiat Panda with the four wheel drive mechanism. The company claims that it is the only vehicle in the A segment to have this mechanism. This new 4x4 Fiat Panda is based on the regular Panda, which is a 5 door hatchback. However the new variant will definitely look more stylish and tough than the standard hatchback. Recently unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last month, we can also expect the vehicle to arrive in India soon, mostly at the beginning of the year 2013 with an expected price range of Rs 8-10 lakhs.

Exterior

The new Panda comes with a completely new & sporty looks. Being the successor to the company’s bestselling car first released 30 years ago; this third-generation four-wheel drive Panda is an awesome example of a car that unites off-road capabilities along with refined design as well as compact & efficient architecture. The new Fiat Panda does not only have elegant looks from the outside but also have impressive interiors. The company claims that the present petrol engine is capable of producing 40% more torque than the previously used 1.2L engine. A similar kind of improvement is also known to be there in the diesel variant too. The vehicle gets a torque-on-demand transmission with two differentials and an electronically controlled coupling system which after analyzing the vehicle signals distributes the traction onto the front and rear axles as per the required road grip conditions.

Safety

Inspite of being newer and technologically more advanced than the previous version, the new Fiat Panda lags some of the important safety features. The first problem being that despite the passenger compartment remaining stable in the frontal test, it was seen that the steering column and ignition barrel were not supposedly reducing the risk to the drivers of different sizes and to those who sat in different positions. Also during side impacts, the indications from the rib compressions of the dummies indicate that the protection is marginal or weak. And that’s the reason why the Panda didn’t meet Euro NCAP’s standard.

Chevrolet Cruze

Following the success of Chevrolet Optra, Travera, Aveo, Spark Captiva and Beat in India; the American car giant has shaken the other Indian car manufacturers by launching the all-new Chevrolet Cruze in 2012. This D-segment sedan built on GM’s refurbished Delta 2 platform competes with the likes Volkswagen Jetta, Honda Civic, Hyundai Verna and Skoda Laura as GM has set a highly competitive price tag to establish its rule in the Indian market. Not only does Chevrolet Cruze has bold and stylish exteriors, but also has comfortable, elegant and spacious interiors. Exterior

Renault Fluence

The French auto manufacturer, Renault established its market in 2005 in India by collaborating with Mahindra & Mahindra to manufacture a sedan and tagged it as Logan. It did not work out as well as it was expected to be, so Renault and Mahindra parted their ways in early 2010. Both these types of engines have a 1.5 L capacity and are made up of aluminium alloy with 4 inline cylinders and 16 valves in total. The petrol variant gets DOHC engines with Ti-VCT fuel system.
